Our activities are all free and available throughout the day Monday through Friday. Shawnee Senior Center’s recreation room holds three billiards tables and four custom-made domino tables, all looking for action! Check below for a detailed description of our activities and check the schedule to see what days/times these activities are available.

Our Activities

Senior Citizens playing pool

Pool Games

We have a massive pool hall with 3 beautifully upholstered tables. The pool hall is open to seniors all day during normal hours of operation. Pool sticks and all other equipment is provided but you can also bring your own if desired. All skill levels are welcome.

Senior Citizens playing card games

Card Games

Cards? Do we have cards!! MWF Card Posse plays several games depending on the number of people in attendance: Hearts, Spades, Kings in the Corner, and Canasta – just to name a few. Groups are open to new members and happy to teach games to newcomers.

Wood Carving classes for Senior Citizens

Wood Carving

Woodcarvers meet on Tuesday mornings in Craft Room 1. Talents range from beginners still carving soap, to prominent artists whose work is shown in galleries – and all of them are willing to share their knowledge and spend time visiting with interested individuals.

Quilting classes for seniors

Quilting Classes

If quilting is your game, Wednesdays are your day! From about 9am until noon quilting class is held in craft roof 1. These people (yes, men and women) are active, fun, community-oriented, and fun to be around. This class is welcome to all and includes beginners to those very skilled.

Senior Citizens singing gospel hymns

Gospel Singing

Our choir is available to everyone to join. We perform every Tuesday and Friday. The focus on the group is of the older Baptist hymns. However, the group itself is nondenominational.

Senior Citizens country western dancing

Every Tuesday and Thursday, Storytime band comes to the Senior Center to perform. The band has been volunteering for over 20 years. They play a variety of music such as modern country, classic western, line dancing, and boot-scootin'.
