On Tuesday, September 17, 2019 – Board members of Senior Citizens of Shawnee, Inc. (SCSInc.), who had been the contracted manager for the Senior Citizens Center, completed the final steps in dissolving the 34-year old nonprofit entity by donating the balance of their funds to another community nonprofit, Gateway to Prevention and Recovery. Pictured in the above link are L-R are SCSInc. representatives, Kate Joyce, Executive Director, Jean Lancaster, Treasurer, Daryl McVey, Board Chairman, Sallie McLaughlin, Gateway’s Executive Director and Lisa Watson, SCSInc. Secretary.
Gateway to Prevention and Recovery is planning to use the funds as the first significant donation to the Building Fund for their new campus at 36609 W. 45th St. in Shawnee. This campus will house all components of Gateway from prevention to treatment as they plan for and move into the future.
We wanted to donate our remaining funds to an organization that provides services for seniors. That services are provided to persons of all ages, is an added benefit. Oklahoma has very high rates for addiction, unhealthy behaviors and life choices. Gateway to Prevention and Recovery addresses these with education at all levels from individuals to schools, businesses and governmental policy changes. Treatment is also a key component for change and all of these resources are available to Shawnee and the surrounding communities.
It is our great pleasure to gift our remaining funds to an organization that benefits so many in our community.
