This years event brought in over $37,000 in funds and in-kind donations to help improve the Shawnee Senior Center.
We had so much FUN while FUN-draising at this year’s BLUE JEANS BALL on January 19, 2019, when the Shawnee Senior Center held its second annual Blue Jeans Ball Fundraising event – this year at the Grand Casino Hotel Resort! Line dancing, bull ridin’,boot scootin’ & dang good BBQ in the beautifully decorated – thank you, Sylvia & crew!
We’ve made a lot of progress this year with increasing activity at the center, growing our programs and improving the center. We feel that the Shawnee Senior Center has become a presence in the Shawnee community, and it’s because of events like the Blue Jeans Ball that help us connect with people who believe in our mission. That’s why we wanted to personally thank everyone who came out on that frigid night to support the efforts of the Shawnee Senior Center and “boot scootin’ boogie” with us!
Music by BlackWater Smoke
The evening’s festivities kicked off at 6pm with live music from Blackwater Smoke. An incredibly talented five-man, local Shawnee Band formerly known as The Geoff Scott Band. The band played to the end of the evening, performing classics from both country & western, classic & southern rock genres. If you’ve never heard them before, I encourage you to check out their facebook page: BlackWater Smoke
Barbequee & Cash Bar
We had the pleasure of our event being catered by The Grand Casino Casino Hotel Resort. A full Bar-B-Que platter was arranged with three (3) meats, potato salad, baked beans, coleslaw, dinner salad, and hot buns! A cash bar was also set up to supply the crowd refreshments.
Mechanical Bull rides
New to the Blue Jeans Ball event was the mechanical bull. This fun event was provided by Extreme Inflatables Inc.
Generous supporters provided many donation items for our silent auction. We had custom jewelry, a walnut wood sculpture donated by Chief Jerry Haney, a basket full of pecan goodies, romantic stay-cation packages, baskets that included home-brew beers & ciders from Bit Man and Devil’s Backbone micro-brewery beer, home-made wine from Mills Estate, and a whole lot more. Our silent auction raised in over $1,700. The funds from the Blue Jeans Ball will help us support programs and services we offer at the Shawnee Senior Center such as our Meals, Fitness, and Activities Programs.
