Successful Blue Jeans Ball

Written By: Artex, , Events
Fundraising event that brought in over $5,000 to help improve the Shawnee Senior Center.

On January 13, 2018, the Shawnee Senior Center held its first annual Blue Jeans Ball Fundraising event! The event marked a momentous occasion for us as we unveiled our new brand, website, and had an official ribbon-cutting ceremony. We knew right away when we began planning this event that we wanted to reintroduce ourselves to the community along with our mission. Our goal for this year is to increase activity at the center, grow our programs and improve the center, become a presence in the Shawnee community, and connect with people who believe in our mission. We’ll discuss more on our new brand and upcoming changes to the center in future blogs so stay tuned to get the scoop!

The festivities began at 6 pm with our ribbon-cutting ceremony. Our board members gathered alongside staff and volunteers around Kate Joyce, Cruise Director of the Shawnee Senior Center as she cut the ribbon. Members of the press where there along with our partners to celebrate this moment.

Silent Auction

We were blessed to have so many people donate great items for our silent auction. We had custom jewelry and brand named jewelry from Swarovski crystal. We had a walnut wood sculpture donated by Jerry Haney, Coca-Cola branded items bag, romantic evening packages, picnic baskets, wine, and a whole lot more. Our silent auction raised in excess of $900. The funds from the silent auction, along with all the funds collected at the event will help us raise the money we need to make necessary updates such as lighting, roof, furniture and equipment and recarpeting the facility.

We want to personally thank everyone who donated an item to our silent auction event:

Website Unveiling

Our website has long been needing a change. We were super excited to reveal our new website. This website was built from the feedback of our seniors. We originally did a focus group of over 50 of our senior members. These questions prompted how they felt about our current website, if they used the website, if they liked the website, if the website was easy to use, what the website felt like it was missing, and more. Taking their feedback, we designed a user-friendly website that was easy to use and utilized the new branding.

We will be adding on to the website coming up shortly. some of the new things we will be launching soon will be a healthy cooking recipe guide for seniors. This will include recipes that are heart healthy, diabetic friendly, and overall well balanced for seniors. We will also be launching a follow along at home video blog for exercises and fitness tips. Lastly, we will soon be selling handmade goods on our website, made by seniors. So check back regularly to see the new updates!
